Holi – one of India’s famous festival which is celebrated with vibrant colours is around the corner. It falls on March 13, this year. I will take off from work on this day to join in the Holi celebrations which include preparing the dishes specifically, on this day. One such treat is – Thandai , the sweet and spicy energizing drink. This is a must to sustain the hours of revelling in colour festivities with family and friends on this day. Last year, I also made Thandai phirni which is a sweet dish made with Thandai powder and rice. You can find the recipe at: http://www.tangytales.com/recipe/thandai-phirni/
This time I ensured that I bought herbal Holi colors which are ecofriendly and safe too.
What is Thandai?
Thandai is a refreshing cold drink prepared with a mixture of fennel seeds, almonds, rose petals, pepper, pumpkin seeds, cardamom, saffron, sugar and milk. Indeed a varied and exotic combination! A rejuvenating, energy drink, associated with this festival, especially in the Northern parts of India.
Here is the recipe to make the Thandai masala powder, first. I adapted the recipe from ‘Whisk affair’. Once you have this rich and spicy blend ready, making the Thandai drink is easy. You can find the recipe here on my blog: http://www.tangytales.com/recipe/thandai-the-holi-drink/
My Holi wishes in advance to all my blog readers!
May God gift you all the
colors of life,
colors of friendship,
colors of food and
colors of love!
Happy Holi to you and your family!!
